《Whisky In The Jar》為愛爾蘭眾所熟知流傳已久的民謠，但原創作者已不可考。歌曲是述說一名強盜，搶了一位隊長 ( captain Farrell ) 的錢，還買了棟房子給愛人 ( or妻子？ )，結果卻被愛人出賣而鋃鐺入獄。由於翻唱者眾多，歌詞或也各有所不同。

此曲自50年代初期起即陸續有樂團翻唱，而歌曲開始廣為曝光，是由於愛爾蘭民謠樂團The Dubliners在1967的翻唱版本。在美國，則是由The Highwaymen的版本帶動了流行 ( The Highwaymen最知名的歌曲為《Michael, Row the Boat Ashore》，為1961冠軍曲，相信很多人都熟悉。)。



1972，愛爾蘭樂團Thin Lizzy將此曲改為搖滾版，也為該團闖出了知名度。1998，美國重金屬樂團Metallica沿襲了Thin Lizzy的曲風，並更加重了口味，除了受到重金屬聽友們的喜愛，也奪得了一座最佳硬式搖滾演唱的葛萊美獎。
