此曲為Fleetwood Mac樂隊的鍵盤手Christine McVie 個人在1984發行的第2張同名專輯的主打歌曲，雖然在告示牌熱門排行榜獲得第10名，但在告示牌的Adult Contemporary ( 成人當代 ) 與 Top Rock Tracks ( 主流搖滾 ) 均是為冠軍曲。
此曲的共同作者Todd Sharp回憶當時與Christine McVie大概只花了30分鐘即創作了此曲，且在聽到第一段歌詞時就斷言此曲具有商業的前瞻性。歌曲內容大意是說被對方給「電」到了，由於之前的失敗經驗，希望這次不要再輸了。歌曲內容常被懷疑是否為寫歌者自身所遭遇之情況？McVie澄清道: at the time I wrote it， no one did have a hold on me。

以下另貼一首Fleetwood Mac的歌曲《As Long As You Follow》/ 1988，寫歌者為McVie的第二任葡萄牙籍的丈夫Eddy Quintela，該曲對於感情的抒發與《Got a Hold on Me》頗為類似，由McVie低沉、情感內斂的嗓音來主唱更是理所當然。1976，在專輯《Rumours》製作期間，McVie曾與樂團的燈光師發生了一段戀情，因而啟發了她創作《You Make Loving Fun》的靈感。同年，與同樂團貝士手的老公離婚。1979 ---1982，與The Beach Boys的鼓手Dennis Wilson約會 ( Dennis於1983可能因酒後下海游泳遭溺斃，享年39歲 )，1986與Eddy Quintela結婚 ( 2003離婚 )，2022，McVie因中風病逝，享年79歲。
