有著拉丁血統的美國女歌手兼演員─Irene Cara，曾在1980年的電影「Fame ( 名揚四海 )」中擔任女主角，除了獲得了金球獎的提名，同時她演唱的影片同名主題曲《Fame》，也登上了排行榜第4名，並成為了國際的熱門曲，因而使得她一舉成名。

此曲也是由Irene Cara為1983年的電影「Flashdance ( 閃舞 )」所唱的同名主題曲，成績更是輝煌：不僅蟬聯了排行榜6週的冠軍，同時還拿下了奧斯卡及金球獎的電影最佳原創歌曲獎，也為Irene Cara奪得了一座最佳流行女歌手的葛萊美獎。2008年，此曲在Billboard歷年來100首好歌中排名第26，可惜這也是Irene Cara唯一的一首冠軍曲。

《閃舞》其實是部勵志電影，講的是一個女孩白天在工廠上班，晚上在酒吧跳舞，但決心要成為一個芭蕾舞者，最後終於美夢成真的故事。電影情節並不特殊，但因搭配了多首好歌，而讓此片在當年轟動一時。

許多人疑惑何謂「閃舞」？其實英文flash這個字在俚語中也有「性暴露」的意思。所以，我認為Flashdance應該指的是「豔舞」，也就是電影女主角晚上在酒吧兼差跳的那種舞，而這首歌真正的歌名應該是《What a Feeling》吧！
