have exactly the same preterit.        

Fueron al zoológico.        
Las clases fueron fáciles.        

Fui al campo por autobús.        I went to the countryside by bus.
Fuiste a España por avión.        You went to Spain on an airplane.
Fue una fiesta fantástica.        It was a fantastic party.
Fuimos a bucear por barca.        We went to scuba dive on a boat.
Fuisteis al zoológico por coche.        You went to the zoo in a car.
Los mandriles fueron muy interesantes.    Those baboons are very interesting.

    fui ends with i, ---- I went, I was        
    fue ends with e, --- he/she went, he/she was        

2. the verb meant to be or to go,        
most of the time, it´s going to be IR, to go.        
When you think of SER in the past time, you will usually use imperfect indicative instead of preterit.  (imperfecto of "ser": era, eras, era, éramos, erais, eran)
