Last Friday, I thought I would give Grandma a call to see how she is doing. Last time I talked to her was late June, so I feel kind of not doing a very good job keeping in touch. She said, "Oh you! Have you been busy?" Opps..
So I tried to think back, and explained to Grandma what I had been doing. Well, it turned out that I had been busy! "Sounds like you were just busy having fun," said Grandma. Ok, that's not exactly the impression I wanted to give Grandma, you know, having fund without her. Plus some of it really wasn't for fun. The point is (I have a point?) that got me to think that indeed life has been quite eventful since I moved to Singapore. Not all events had been good or desired, but basically since about 3 years ago, I could hardly say I had any dull time longer than three months. So I thought I put together a timeline as keepsake:
July '06 - Landed in SG the first time
Aug '06 - Started at first job in SG
Sep '06 - Went to Hong Kong the first time.
Nov '06 - Went to Macau the first time. Wore a Sari the first time.
Dec '06 - Had a minor surgery the first time. First New Year's Eve spent at a tropical beach. Very cool.
Feb '07 - Discovered there was ZERO money in bank account, while trying to check out groceries at the supermarket. Had to stand there embarrased while stepson ran home to find any cash we might have.
June '07 - Went to Thailand (ChiangMai) the first time
Sep '07 - Became Singapore PR (obviously the first time).
Oct '07 - Took a trip to Toronto & Vancouver. First time to San Francsico.
Jan '08 - Finally closed the sale of our house in Canada, after 6 months of viewing. It dragged on almost as long as the winter.
Feb '08 - First Chinese New Year in Shanghai. First time to Bintan.
May '08 - Moved into the first HDB.
June '08 - Went to Italy (Turin) and Belgium for the first time, attending best friend's wedding.
July '08 - Mother-in-law and stepkids came to stay with us for the summer.
Aug '08 - Went to Malaysia for the first time, just over in JB.
Sep '08 - Went back to Taiwan for the first time since '05. Met up with old University friends.
Dec '08 - Went to the Philippines for the first time, celebrated New Year's Eve in Boracay. Also had the most expensive hairwork done on my head for the first time, broke family record on that!
Jan '09 - Went to Phuket for the first time. Spent Chinese New Year holidays there.
Mar '09 - Invited my Grandma to Singapore, did a bunch of tourist stuff and met with kind people who are willing to play Ma Jang with her for a few days. Went to San Francsico for the second time.
May '09 - Went to San Francsico for the third time. I love that city!
June '09 - Invited my parents to stay with us. Went to Sentosa for the X time. Closed the sale of our flat after it was listed for only one day.
July '09 - Drove on the German autobahn for the first time. Went to stay at this beautiful place in the Alps and rode around on a segway. Went to ex-half-relative, aka good friend and my former wedding asher's wedding in Prague. I know, it's complicated. Stepkids arrived from Toronto.
Aug '09 - Finally put our deposit down on another flat. Went to Phuket. Stepkids went back to Toronto.
These are just things appropriate for leaving on a blog, and not even including events mostly involving my husband. Moreover, many of our friends and colleagues seem to be living a fast pace life in Singapore too. This is another major reason why I love living in Singapore. It's just so exciting!
