Mistakenly calling a woman pregnant or asking when she'd due was voted the worst thing to say to a woman
Most women would agree that men have an unfortunate habit of putting their feet in their mouths from time to time, but now the very worst things they say have been revealed.
Asking a woman ‘when’s the baby due?’ when she is not actually pregnant has been voted the worst thing a man can say to a lady – according to a new poll.
Responding to the question, ‘does my bum look big in this?’ with the word ‘yes’, unsurprisingly came second in the poll, with 17 per cent believing it to be the worst thing a man could say to a woman.
More than one in seven thought the most vile thing a man could say was ‘you look tired’ however, this was closely followed by ‘calm down dear’ with 12 per cent.
The phrase, ‘will you need a hand parking that luv?’ came fifth on the list with 11 per cent, whereas the comment ‘you look more and more like your mother every day’ scored eight per cent of the vote.
Saying ‘I told you so’ was seen as unforgivable by five per cent of ladies with many citing that phrase was for the sole use of women only. Asking ‘how much did you pay for that haircut?’ was seen as a blunder by four per cent of respondents.
In ninth and tenth place were ‘should you be eating that?’ and ‘haven’t you got some hoovering to do?’ which scored three and one per cent respectively.
One clueless man commented: 'I once asked a woman when her baby was due only to be told that she was just tubby. It was so embarrassing - I wish the ground could have just swallowed me up.
Men asking if a woman needs help when parking a car was voted the most annoying thing by 11 per cent
‘I was so positive that she was pregnant – it is so rare that you see fat congealed in a perfect bump on the belly, you’d expect it to be more evenly distributed.’
The worst things a man can say to a woman ...
1. When is it it due (26%)
2. Yes, your bum looks big (17%)
3. You look tired (13%)
4. Calm down dear (12%)
5. Will you need a hand parking that, luv? (11%)
6. You look more like your mother every day (8%)
7. I told you so (5%)
8. How much did you pay for that hair cut? (4%)
9. Should you be eating that? (3%)

Another man said: ‘It’s understandable that some guys make the error of thinking that some fat girls are pregnant. Unless you’ve had a baby you don’t really know what a true baby bump looks like.
‘To the untrained eye a woman may look pregnant but in reality she may just have eaten too many pies.’
One woman commented: ‘It’s the condescending remarks which I hate the most. Phrases like ‘calm down dear’ and ‘I told you so’ make my blood boil.’
Another said: ‘I absolutely hate it when guys tell me that I look tired. They think they are trying to be nice but all they are saying is ‘blimey, don’t you look a wreck’.’
A spokesperson for Paintballing.co.uk, who conducted the survey, commented: ‘Sometimes guys say these things to women thinking that they will see it in the same jest with which the comment was said. This is often not the case.
‘I’m not at all surprised that ‘when’s it due’ came out top of the poll, no one likes to be thought of as fat.’
