短篇故事--煙灰缸

這篇故事是在我 Creative Writing課寫的，教授給了我們七分鐘，題目是「煙灰缸」。我當時寫出的故事是英文的，所以回家後我把它翻成中文。英文寫七分鐘的故事，翻中文翻了大概半個小時，把英文打進電腦又花了我將近十分鐘；找照片花了大約十二分鐘。

但是呢...新聞台不聽話，所以我光是常是登這篇故事就試了兩個小時。唉。

The ashtray sits on the table by the huge English/Chinese dictionary. Besides that, a cup of black coffee with two packets of sweet’ n ’low; when he finishes that cup he will be as high as a plane to Taiwan. Plane, how do you say ‘plane’ in Chinese? Fei-Ji? What an annoying language to learn.

Next to the coffee is a picture of her, with her big brown eyes like Boba and her maroon beanie; that’s the thing that keeps him going,too.

He’s fed up with learning Pinyin and the four different tones of Chinese. The ashtray was not used at all this week; he is trying to quit, and he’s doing it cold-turkey style. Quitting smoking and learning Chinese are the two things left for him to do before flying 13 hours to Taiwan and asking her to marry him. ”Jia- Gei-Wo”, that’s how to say “marry me” in Chinese.

Oh, and he’s going to mound that ashtray on the wall in the first house they live in as a married couple. By then, my Chinese will be very fluent, I could probably argue with her in Chinese and win the argument, he thought happily while practiced saying ”airplane” in Chinese.

桌上的煙灰缸旁有一本厚重的中英字典，字典的左邊，放著一杯加了兩包代糖的黑咖啡；當他喝完那杯咖啡，他會High到跟飛往台灣的飛機一樣高。飛機，飛機的中文怎麼說？他翻開字典：ㄈㄟ　ㄐㄧ。真是個討厭的語言，怎麼會這麼難學？

咖啡的旁邊是一張她的照片，她咖啡色的圓眼睛跟粉圓好像；還有那磚紅色的毛帽；都是讓他繼續學下去的動力。他已經快受不了死背注音符號跟如何分辨一二三四聲，真是越念頭越大。

這一個星期都沒有碰過煙灰缸。他在努力戒煙，他把煙全丟進馬桶裡了。他只剩下戒煙跟學中文兩件事﹔成功後，他就會坐上飛十三個小時的飛機到台灣跟她求婚。ㄐㄧㄚˋ　ㄍㄟˇ　ㄨㄛˇ，他每天睡覺之前會反複練習那句話三十次。

他決定要把那個煙灰缸釘在他們婚後第一個家的牆壁上做紀念。那時候，我的中文會很流利，流利到可以用中文跟她辯論辯到贏。他一邊開心的想，一邊練習他的ㄅㄆㄇㄈ。
