  2.5   The morning Routine & Reflexive Verbs

Hoy aprenderás de las rutinas diarias y los verbos de reflexivos, como,
Por la mañana, me lavos los dientes.
Por la noche, me acuesto.
y mucho mas.  Vamonos!

There is something different when you talk about things that you do to yourself.  You´ll use new kinds of verbs, the reflexive verbs.  Reflexive verbs indicate someone do sth to himself or to herself, like I cut myself or she looked at herself in the mirror.  A lots of reflexive verbs in English don´t use myself, yourself, himself, herself, ourselfves or themselves pronouns because it's already assumed.

  Reflexive verbs peform the action on the subject

I wake up at 7 in the morning.
You just assume that I wake myself up at 7 in the morning, unless I say sth like my mum wakes me up at 7 in the morning.

The phrases like:
I take a shower, I get dressed, I go to sleep,
all work like this.  They're reflexive, even they don't carry reflexive -self pronoun.

As usual, Spanish is a little different, it actually does carry the self pronoun everywhere it goes.  And you'll always know when you use it, because it is right there attached to the infinitive.  If you look up the most morning routines in the dictionary.  You´ll find they all the se attached to the end of the infinitive.  Like

bañarse                  to bath oneself / to take a bath
quitarse la ropa       to undress oneself
lavarse el pelo         to wash one's hair
atarse los zapatos   to tie one's shoes
peinarse                 to brush one's hair
limarse las uñas     cut one's nail.

cepillar = to brush
bañar = to bathe
lavar = to wash

To be reflexive or NOT:

Is the subject performaing the action on himself or herself?
If the answer is yes, then you need to make those verbs reflexive.

cepillarse
bañarse
lavarse

If the subject does not perform the action on someone or something else, then it does not need to be reflexive.
e.g.
se seca el pelo  = the person is drying her own hair.
seca el perro = the man is drying the dog.

As long as the action is being performed by the subject on the subject, you use reflesive pronoun.

Me acuesto a las 10.   I go to bed at 10.
"Te cepillas el pelo cada mañana.
                                  You brush your hair every morning."
Se seca el pelo.
Se afeita.
Se riza el pelo.            rizarse  vr  to curl
Nos vestimos.               we get dressed
Os ponéis perfume         You put on perfume.
Se quitan la ropa.          They undressed themselves.

Reflexive Pronouns

2ª persona         te                  os
3ª persona         se                  se

Exceptions:

e.g.
