莊 子 與 惠 子 游 於 濠 梁 之 上 。
Chuangtse and Hueitse had strolled on to the bridge over the Hao,

莊 子 曰 ： 「 儵 魚 出 游 從 容 ，
when Chuangtse observed, ”See how the small fish are darting about!

是 魚 之 樂 也 。 」
That is the happiness of the fish.”

惠 子 曰 ︰ 「 子 非 魚 ，
”You not being a fish yourself,” said Hueitse,

安 知 魚 之 樂 ？ 」
”how can you know the happiness of the fish?”

「 子 非 我 ，
”And you not being I,”

安 知 我 不 知 魚 之 樂 ？ 」
”how can you know that I do not know?”
