I watched Babel a few nights ago

The movie borrowed the idea of Babel
which is God’s version of why there are
there are different languages and cultures in this world

I wont bore you with the details, internet is too useful anyway

The movie turned out very different from what I had imagined

I thought that it would be an intense thriller involving
conspiracy and propaganda, as well as heavy political disputes

The background of the story seemed perfect for that

Instead,
The movie told four stories
Each loosely related to each other

The stereotypical big merge/climax never took place
(you know, how seemingly unrelated stories eventually converge and shoot out a big ending)

It was four stories, about communication
or lack thereof

All told in a very subtle way
There was never too much emotion
This movie doesnt strike you like a torrent
But it penetrates you like a stalactite
Slow and light, but powerful


It was a movie that left me speechless
Not because it was too good or too bad
In fact, it was neither
It wasnt the best movie Ive ever seen, and certainly not the worst

But somehow I just cant stop thinking about it.

I cannot understand you, and neither can you

Then, confusion, frasturation and anger arise
Thats why we human beings never got around to finish that Babylon Tower

Sometimes when words and words alone just aint enough

We are all trying
trying desperately to break that barrier
to break that second skin

And we fail





I look at you, you look at me
In the eyes

I dont understand you, even tho we may speak the same language

Even tho we are standing right beside one another

Communication is a tricky little thing




You say Babel
I say babble

I listened so hard, I still couldnt understand you.
And of cuz, no one ever really understands me, too





PS: Babel has an awesome OST, I highly recommend it!

Update, Feb 26th: What did I tell you about music from Babel? Good, aint it? So good it won an Oscar! Congrats !!
