《中英對照讀新聞》Cat survives 19 days with jar on head 頭卡在罐內19天 貓咪存活下來

Tabitha Cain has fed a feral cat she calls Wild Oats for several years, but now she’s thinking of changing the feline’s name to Survivor.

塔碧莎．凱恩餵養了一隻她喚為「野燕麥」的街貓多年，但現在她考慮將這隻貓改名為「倖存者」。

That’s because she says the cat survived for 19 days with a peanut butter jar stuck on its head. "We tried to get her, but being the type of cat you can’t catch, she kept running and hiding," said Doretha Cain, Tabitha’s mother.

她說，這是因為這隻貓的頭卡在花生醬罐裡19天，仍然活了下來。「我們企圖抓牠，但你抓不到這類的街頭野貓，牠就是不停的跑、不停的躲，」塔碧莎的母親朵瑞莎說。

The family saw the cat several times with the jar on its head and tried in vain to catch it. But after not seeing the cat for a week, the Cains feared the worst.

這家人數度看到這隻頭卡著罐頭的貓，試圖抓牠，但都徒勞無功。然而，在一個禮拜沒看到牠後，凱恩一家人擔心最糟的情況會發生。

They found the once chubby cat on Wednesday, too thin and weak to flee. They caught her with a fishing net and used some oil to get the jar off her head.

他們在週三發現這隻曾經圓胖的貓，已經瘦弱得沒辦法逃。他們用漁網逮住牠，然後用一些油讓牠的頭脫離罐子。

They gave her water and treated her wounds and on Friday she began to eat again. "I’ve heard of cats having nine lives but I think this one has 19 because she survived 19 days," Doretha Cain said.

他們給牠水喝、醫治牠的傷口，週五時牠再度開始進食。「我聽過貓有9條命，但我認為這隻貓有19條命，因為牠撐過了19天，」朵瑞莎說。

A Memphis veterinarian said the cat may have lived off of its excess fat.
