Landmine victims are to take part in a beauty contest in Angola, where tens of thousands have been injured by mines.

安哥拉的地雷受害者即將參加一項選美比賽，安哥拉有數萬人曾因誤踩地雷而受傷。

The pageant has been organised by Angola’s de-mining commission, and aims to restore the confidence of victims and raise awareness of their plight.

這項選美比賽是由安哥拉的除雷委員會所主辦，目的是要恢復地雷受害者的自信心，並讓更多人瞭解他們面臨的困境。

Millions of mines were planted in Angola during a 27-year civil war that ended in 2002.

在長達27年、於2002結束的內戰中，有數百萬枚地雷被埋設在安哥拉境內。

The "Miss Landmine Survivor" contest will be held in a luxury hotel in the Angolan capital, Luanda. All of the contestants have been maimed by landmines.

這項名為「地雷倖存者小姐」選美比賽，將於安哥拉首都盧安達的一間豪華飯店內舉行。所有參賽者都曾因誤觸地雷而導致肢體殘障。

Tens of thousands of Angolans have lost limbs or suffered other injuries in mine explosions. And they continue to do so, even though the war ended six years ago.

The UN says that, despite an extensive de-mining programme, millions of landmines remain littered across Angola - and this means great stretches of the country are still out of bounds, too dangerous to farm or to travel through.

landmine/mine：名詞，指地雷，如The US forces were clearing the surrounding area of mines.（美軍正在清除附近區域的地雷。）mine亦可做動詞，指埋設地／水雷、用地／水雷炸毀，如The desert was heavily mined.（這片沙漠中到處埋有地雷。）

maim：動詞，使…殘廢、受到重傷、失去手腳等，如Many children have been maimed for life by these bombs.（許多兒童都因這些炸彈而終生殘廢。）

out of bounds：片語，指禁止進入，如All military sites are totally out of bounds.（所有軍事用地完全禁止外人進入。）bounds則指界限。
