Badly behaved commuters riding on Yokohama’s public transport will soon be risking a dressing-down.

在日本橫濱搭乘大眾運輸工具卻舉止無禮的通勤者，即將面臨遭到斥責的風險。

Newly appointed "etiquette police" will be asking travellers to turn down their headphones and give up their seats for their elders and betters.

新任命的「禮儀警察」將要求乘客降低耳機音量，並把座位禮讓給年長人士。

A recent poll found nearly nine out of 10 respondents felt standards of public behaviour had declined.

根據最近一項民調顯示，幾乎有9成受訪者認為，公眾行為的標準已經下降。

This perceived lapse included failing to offer your seat to pregnant and elderly people, chatting loudly on mobile phones, applying make-up in public, and listening to music on "leaky" headphones. A prime hang-out for violators was identified as Japan’s jammed commuter trains.

被公認的失禮舉動包括不肯讓位給孕婦與老人、用手機高聲談話、在公開場所化妝，以及用會「漏音」的耳機聽音樂等。而這些違反禮節者最常出沒的地方，則被指出是在日本擁擠的通勤電車上。

So transport authorities in Yokohama have appointed a team of manners enforcers, the Smile-Manner Squadron, to try to curb some of the bad behaviour.

因此橫濱市交通當局已指派了一組名為「微笑禮儀隊」的禮儀執行人員，試圖制止某些不當行為。

The team is mostly made up of over-60s, well acquainted with the standards of conduct associated with the "old Japan".

這支隊伍多由年逾60歲的長者所組成，他們熟知與「舊日本」息息相關的行為準則。

The team members, who will be identifiable by their bright green uniforms, will have no legal powers to insist that their advice is accepted by recalcitrant passengers.
