Financial Crisis
Freshly entering the grow-up world, there are so many rules I am not so familiar with. One of them is the freedom of desire. Feeling financially independent is one thing; however, making ends meet is totally another story. Then I start to wonder how people can save in the society that is push you to consume.
As we have the BP oil pumping into the gulf shore constantly, so are the desires that are created by the so called big corporations. Obsessed with the new products, should I get a new laptop or just a fancy i-pad instead. Do we really need everything new? Or it’s just a market that is created purely for pushing the economy running? Come to think of it, when in the good old days, we don’t really have that much to crave for. Is the modern times better? Or we are just the same, just wearing different costumes?
Last night, as we have our girly night time, Mr. T who earns quite much a month, ends up empty his saving every month. It’s just impossible for him to spend all his salary on something so trivial, but so many tiny expense just cost him his whole savings. Spending is addictive, just like eating. Self-restraining is essential as we are in the world surrounded by commercial monsters. We are always stimulated by the media. The truth is we seem incapable of running away from them. Is spending lubricating the capitalistic mill or just a plane that destined to crash?
Mr. T said, maybe, all his savings are in the heaven since he does so many good deeds such as helping the his students going through so many crisis, such as indulging himself in charity with no payment. Such and such makes him a billionaire in the sky but slump dog on earth. He cried as soon as he found out that his savings were empty and still have to borrow some money from Mom to pay some of his bills. Does this qualify as a grown-up?
My roommate was once to be a well-paid copy writer. He used to have a single apartment. According to what he said, designer brands never are his favorite. Logically he should have tons of savings; on the contrary, he has almost nothing in his bank account. He spent most of his income in books and CDs, sounded like something I will do as well. Unfortunately, books are expensive to own but once you don’t want them, they are nothing but a stack of paper. So are other forms of art that can be reproduce easily and fast. You cannot measure what you benefit from them easily and most of the time you cannot pay your landlord in knowledge. Money is the currency not knowledge.
And myself? My obsession with Apple have cost me quite a fortune. Aside from that, I guess I am okay with money. The truth is I haven’t earned that much so that I can make plans or save. And living is be my best excuse for not have a dime in my bank. The reason itself sounds really legitimate, imagining you earned average 25000 NT dollars (830 Dollars) a month, taking away 10000 for rent and bills, there is really not much left you can have a “plan” for. See the problem now, money money money, give it to me!
