We talked about the word ”babe” in the ESL class. Ms. Cathy asked us, “ Do your husbands call you babe or other nicknames?” I didn’t answer that question. Because I was embarrassed to say, “My husband calls me pork floss in Taiwanese.”

One day, my younger sister fed my nephew, Yiyi, with a spoon. He cried “Pork floss!” in Taiwanese before each spoon of rice reached his mouth. It seemed that he wanted nothing else but pork floss. The scene impressed my husband. He thought, “As for wanting one thing only and nothing else, I am just like that little boy.”

From that day on, my husband called me pork floss in Taiwanese. I guess he meant to say, “I love nobody else but you.”
