My husband studied in New York City 10 years ago. I didn’t go with him. I worked in Taiwan during those two years. It’s our first time to live far away from one another. We really missed each other. 

He collected two stuffed animals there to accompany him for the time without me. One was a lion, which had a big belly and yellow fur; the other one was a rabbit, which had long legs and gray fur. He put the lion and the rabbit together in his dorm room. They not only accompanied him, but also represented us in his mind.  

One spring day, he brought them to the campus where he studied. He posed them around and took a lot of pictures of them. The lion represented him and the rabbit represented me in those photos. Then he wrote captions for those lovely photos, which were basically a story about how we met at the bookstore.

He brought the lion and the rabbit to me when he came back to Taiwan. Several years later, we filled our wedding invitations with those lovely photos. Then we brought the lion and the rabbit to Austin. We still put them together in our apartment. For they not only represent us, but also bear vivid memories of our love.
