Bulls will be routinely dope tested during Spain’s most prestigious bullfighting festival to ensure their performance in the ring is not being manipulated, organisers have announced.

在西班牙最富盛名的鬥牛節期間，公牛將定期接受藥檢，以確保牠們在鬥牛場中的表現沒有作假，主辦單位已經宣布。

Any bull that behaves "strangely" during the corrida at this month’s Feria de San Isidro in Madrid will be tested for drugs after the fight is over.

在馬德里本月的聖．伊西德羅節，若有任何公牛在鬥牛過程中行徑「怪異」，就會在鬥牛結束後接受藥物檢驗。

Analysis will be carried out on blood or urine samples, or on samples of the animal’s entrails if vets believe their behaviour is suspicious.

Breeders face fines of up to €60,000 if they are discovered to have used banned substances on their bulls.

The two most commonly used drugs are said to be tranquillisers and corticosteroids.

Ricardo Mirat, a vet at Las Ventas bullring in Madrid, said that corticosteroids "give the bull more resistance and can disguise a limp or an injury which allows the animal to pass initial tests".
