Southbank Center是全世界最大的私人獨立展演中心,在倫敦已有超過六十年的歷史,包括一個兩千人的大廳Royal Festival Hall,一個千人左右的中型演奏廳Queen Elizabeth Hall,一個小型演奏廳Purcell Room,一個藝廊Hayward Gallery(算是很簡陋的小型藝廊)、一個會議空間還有一間詩歌圖書館;除此之外,一樓有書店、Bar、紀念品店還有一個開放舞台。Southbank Center的鄰居,就是國家劇院,劇院就以戲劇和舞蹈為主了。
與歐洲其他百年名廳相比,Southbank Center裡面的Royal Festival Hall算是年輕小子,也就是因為年輕吧,各種藝術活動的多元化、多樣性以及活潑,絕對讓人眼花撩亂。每年除了駐點閱團LPO的樂季之外,固定的主要幾個大系列包括殼牌國際音樂節(由殼牌石油贊助,殼牌大樓就在Southbank Center隔壁)、國際鋼琴節、倫敦爵士音樂節,以及Festival of Britain。也經常有不定期的小型系列,好比去年有委內瑞拉系列,今年有Boulez。
今年的節目,客觀來講,精采,精彩包括曲目龐大,以及指揮非常多元,樂壇新秀和耆老輩出;主觀來說,龐大到有點讓我.....仰之彌堅,仰到脖子痠痛、頭皮發麻。為什麼這麼說呢?
LPO的常任指揮Solonen今年是全部巴托克,我很想聽Solonen,但看到曲目已經腿軟;緊接著Mazzel與LPO這個樂季,他的計畫是全部馬勒,我也想聽馬捷爾,但是馬勒也讓我感覺渺小不已;然後剩下一些客座指揮,怎麼都挑Bruckner,然後穿插Brahms呢?還有Shostakovich。我的天~~~~如果再加上Barbican邀請夏依和萊比錫布商的全部貝多芬,我已經有種會被壓死的感覺。
其中的首選是阿巴多和洛桑節慶管弦樂團的兩場;看到Boulez,超興奮的,看到那曲目,心裡涼半截......今年的論壇是以他的創作為主,所以他唯一指揮的一場是他自己的作品,坦白說我是非常怕他的現代作品,除了冰冷就是難聽。究竟是否為了要一睹大師現場而忍受大師難聽的作品,枯坐九十分鐘呢?這是個有待解決的問題。另外,我倒非常期待阪本龍一三重奏的世界巡迴演出,還有John Cage之夜;前者很特別,後者呢,我超想聽聽四分三十三秒的現場演出!更何況還有兩個take!
至於今年的獨奏家,反而沒有特別值得期待。艾爾瑪,或許吧,可是他的音樂會,一場為向Boulez致敬,他要演奏Boulez的作品(ORZ),另一場獨奏會...曲目....李斯特巡禮之年還有拉威爾以及德布西的樣子,不是非常有吸引力。Bavouzet,不賴啊,但是全本德布西,穿插巴托克,看到那曲目我已經腦袋變成一坨醬糊。
倫敦爵士音樂節在Southbank Center,今年重點擺在modern jazz,還有世界音樂的fusion jazz。既然都一樣陌生,我想我會看樂器選,選擇怪而稀有的樂器,哈哈哈。
最後提醒一下交通,雖然未必有人會去。Southbank Center剛好位於Waterloo(灰色的Jubilee line)和Embankment(黑色的Northern line)兩站之間,但Waterloo比較近,建議在這站下車再走去音樂廳;Waterloo車站和音樂廳中間還有一個有名的Jazz Bar,忘記甚麼名稱就是。至於Embankment,車站到音樂廳中間必須過橋渡河,如果要看河景、看泰晤士河南北岸的天際線,過橋很好、很優閒;不過若是趕音樂會,這座橋就實在累死人啦(外加上下樓梯,以及上下音樂廳的樓梯)。所以Waterloo還是比較好的選擇。
