Title: Christ, the self-respecting person
Stand by Me was a film about friendship and growing to maturity. It was based on the original novel written by Stephen King, the Body. It described four little boys went on a trip along the railway to found the body of a missing boy, during the trip they shared their secrets and helped each other. At the end of the story was not a happy ending, it still remains a lots space for me to think about it.
In the film of Stand by Me, the ones I like the most are Gordie Lachance and Christ Chambers, Christ was a smart, brave little boy and he was the head of the four boys as his appearance but opposite inside. He was fragile and misgiving for his future which was limited by the citizen’s perspectives, whom should become a bad guy so as his family. Gordie was an outcast on the family and he can only connected to his parents through his elicit brother, his brother drew all his parents’ attention and he was the person who admired Gordie’s talent of writing and he loved this little brother. As Gordie’s brother died in the car accident; Gordie not only lose the most important brother, but also the connection between Gordie and his parents. He looked as a coward but later he became a brave little man to protect his buddies, this impressed me very much.
Christ Chambers was the kind of people who were looked down in the town. For his family background was not very good, his brother was a hoodlum (Eyeballs) and he had stolen the milk money from the school (although there was a reason inside that event, actually Christ had stolen the milk money). Christ was not the kind of person as his family, he also had his dreams; he wanted to be a good person, but he had to live under the shadow of those things, so he wanted to change for his unwillingness, and wanted to leave the place where he grown up.
As I mentioned before, Christ was a fragile boy and he didn’t know what to do, might be he should become the hoodlum as the residents’ thought. Christ had stolen the milk money, but he want to give it back for compunction; at the same time the teacher stolen the milk money and bought a new dress. Christ was recognized as the thief and he could not imagine the teacher do such kind of thing and defame her student. To a teenager, it is unbelievable and he could not accept his evil side he society. And I think the story told by Gordie helped him to find the way. The story was the fat boy who always be teased and he carried on revenge. The story was a funny ones but I think that there must a secret in it. It told us not to look down upon ourselves although all the people did.
We should be proud of ourselves and have hope and dream. And that‘s why the director arranged the scene that Gordie saw a deer after he heard the teacher had stolen from Christ. A deer stands for natural, pure, bright and hope. As a contrast to the bad side of the society and telling us not to abandon the hope and don’t forget that there are still many beautiful things in the world. And they are waiting for us to develope.
