PURPOSE:

To advise operators of exposure of the main landing gear (MLG) actuator beam support link web

to damage and to provide repair instructions.

BACKGROUND:

Two sources have reported damage to the web of the support link caused during removal/installation of the main landing gear actuator.

It is not possible to remove or install the outboard actuator–to–actuator beam attach bolt (Reference (e) and (f)) with the actuator beam installed on the airplane, due to proximity of the MLG beam.

Therefore, during the MLG actuator removal/installation process, the actuator, actuator beam and support link must be handled as an assembly, pinned together by the outboard actuator bolt. If the support link is unrestrained during this process, it can rotate beyond its normal range and make contact with the actuator which may cause damage to the support link web.
