A note from London

Dear all,

It is a rainy day in London. I am now writing in the LSE library again.

Today I spent a whole morning in the Treasure of the British Library near to the King’s Cross Train Station. It is a magnificent gallery. It collects many invaluable manuscripts and printed books. For example, I have found manuscripts of Newton, Darwin, Leonardo Da Vinci, Mozart, Chopin, Jane Austen, Dickens, Virginia Wolff, and the original version of Lewis Carroll’s Alice Adventures in Wonderland. The gallery also collected two original copies of Magna Carta and a copy of Chinese ‘Diamond Sutra’ , the world’s earliest complete printed book made in AD 868.

(you can find out more in their online gallery at http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/themes/landmarksprint.html)

Though I have been to this gallery for several times before, it still gave me a lot of satisfaction . If you have a chance to come to London, I would strongly recommend you to pay a visit to this gallery.

After that, I went to Judd Books. Judd, in my view, is the best academic used and bargain bookstore in London. I chose three books and went to the till. Below is the dialogue between the bookshop owner and I.

PC, “I am a student. May I have a discount, please?”
Owner, “ Are you still a student?” he looked at me with puzzle.
PC, “Do you still remember me?”
Owner, “ Of course. Definitely. You bought a lot of books from us. Where have you been?”
PC, “I am very glad that you still remember me. I am away for some years. But I am still a student until October. Please do me a favour.” I smiled, and showed him the student card that I just got from LSE.

I then got 10% off.

I am truly glad that we still remember each other. I have no idea how many books I have bought from him. It must be hundreds.

Yesterday morning, I went to the Highgate Cemetery to visit Karl Marx again. As usual, the Cemetery was quiet and beautiful. I sat in front of Marx for about an hour, and then went to the Waterloo Park next to the Cemetery. I have never seen a park as beautiful as this one. I lied on the grass, and looked at the sky without thinking anything for an hour. When I left, I found out that my mobile was lost in the park. Someone picked it and sent to a café nearby. I got it back this morning. How nice they are!
