My Weapons (episode III)--- Advanced English

<> comes from Taiwan’s most famous English learning magazine, <>, which has been published since 1962. <> once was part of content of <>, but, for facing rivals’ competition, the publisher decided to separate these two parts into two journals.

Although I have read this magazine for two years, I have to admit that I still consider it a difficult English reading. Because there are a lot of vocabulary and pure English writing, it is really “nutritive” for personal English keeping up. This magazine always tries to give readers the new vocabulary people need as well as introduces them to the latest ideas and innovations from around the world. It includes a section of terms to introduce words specific to an article to give readers more background. Besides, in every article, there are some “Highlights.” These are the main points of the articles that help readers to understand quickly and clearly.

There is another advantage to learn English by reading <>--- to understand more about American culture. As American authors write most of the articles in the magazine, what come out from it are usually American viewpoints. In some aspect, it helps people in other countries to understand more about American culture and values.

English learning is a long-term war for me, but it’s a must in this international times. Though I am sometimes lazy of keeping studying, I still have got a lot from this high quality magazine. I recommend it to my friends and my audience here.
