The "921 Earthquake," also called "Chichi Earthquake," hit the central Taiwan on the early morning of September 21,1999.
Many pepole were awakened with shock.
Its epicenter was near the town of Chichi,Nanton.
It was reported that more than two thousand pepole were killed and more than eught thousand pepole were hurt when they trued to run away from their houses.
Thousandof building were totally or partially damaged.
The main quake together with the aftershocks destroyed a lot of roads,bridges and railways.
It will take many years to rebuild these areas.
Unfortunately,it is not possible for scientists to forecast when and where an earthquake will happen.
Therefor it is important to learn the following safety tips.
When a quake hits,first,open the door and windows.
Staying in the corner of a room will be a good idea for it is usually the safest place.
Use your hands to protect your head.
Stay away from windows because broken glass may hurt you.
And remember to tun off the gas.
When the quake stops,move to an open area.
Don’t use the elevator because the power supply may be cut off.
It is necessary for everyone to practice the earthquake drill at home.in school .and in pubilc place.
