An S-class. The reason is because we do not say
“a ssss class” but rather pronounce
the letter “s” as “ess”. In effect, although
we do not write it, in pronunciation “s” starts
with a vowel. Thus, in phonetic terms, the correct
pronunciation is “an ess-class”.
Always use sound rather than spelling to guide
you in making decisions such as these.
