It’s Show Time!!
Last Friday was very special, for it was the time our long prepared and expected Education Night was held. I participated in two events: our class’s event called Owe-Si-Ka and a special event which I was listed as the leader in the registration form.
I would first like to share about my class performance which I in charge of the sound control: which was such an exciting work to take.
Actually, I was not the music controller at first. I had been interested in this job because I thought taking this job is cool since I would rarely had the chance to do this kind of thing. However, since our class leader said they need actor more urgently, and considering that music control should attend every rehearsal, which is a bit hard for a busy people as me, I decide to take the small role.
But things changed last Wednesday. Our former music controller didn’t come to the rehearsal which was scheduled in eight in the morning. Our class leader was quite down and even a bit angry for the lack of enthusiasm our classmates shown on their late arrival. Actually, being late is not the biggest problem; the biggest problem is since music control is such important during the show, how can we made a rehearsal without it?
As a good friend of former sound controller, I took the charge. And this is why I became the music controller. My friend arrived later and since she missed the early part, we got the permission to both be the music controller. Things went well until Friday, which is the day the Education Night took place…
My friend got a new assignment three hours early than the show that she will be in charge of the light-spot. That means that she needed to learn to condition the spot-light in two hours since the spot-light person was too sick to come. And it also had a big effect on me since this also mean that I am going to be the sound controller myself; though I just did this only once, or more accurately—half time.
However, I am thankful that I did a good job that night. One of my classmates borrowed me his script so that I could take some notes of the que point. The light controller who was much more familiar with the script than me often remind me to open the next song or stop them in time (or they will keep playing again and again). And many of my classmates encourage me even though I was not so familiar with some of them before. It was nice to have friends around!
Our classmates did a fantastic performance that night, which I thought was the best time ever.
Next, I want to share my special event with some seniors in Education Department. Many of my friends were surprised at our combination: we had only seven people but come from five different classes. I played the piano, Way-Yin, a sophomore, played the guitar and Yi-Zong, a junior, played the flute, while the other four sang: Ching-Luy who is in the same grade but different class with Way-Yin, Weng-Chin who is also a junior but different class with Yi-Zong, and May-En who is our performance’s song writer and Ming-Yi who is the in the same class with Way-Yin and May-En.
We sang the song called “we pray for you” composed and written by May-En. We want to have this show is simply because we want to tell our friends and school mates that there are Christians caring and praying for them. Though our show didn’t like those hot dances or funny plots, but we sang with our heart and are glad to find that many enjoy our show.
Though we really spent a lot time practicing and arranging, but I think it was really worth it. In conclusion, I was very glad to have myself in this department: having those good friends and classmates around to work together and performance together. This is my first Education Night, and it was also one of my most treasured memories without a doubt.
