I just got a notification letter told me that my proposal has been selected for funding by 2002 University Center for International Studies Graduate Travel Awards. I'll get about US$1,100, including my airfare to Taiwan (US$750), internal travel in Taiwan (US$200), and us$150 for ten days per diem.
It's really great news for us. Currently our funding sources are from being TAs. So it means we only earn money during semesters. Last summer, because of our hesitation and laziness, we lived for 3 months without income.:p Luckily enough we had already saved some deposits for our mortgage. So finally we survived.
This summer looks better for us. My advisor promises he’ll pay me by hour (but not mentioning how much I can earn per hour). And now I got this funding. It means I’ll also have “income” when I stay in Taiwan.
Sometimes it’s really hard to be financially independent! But just like what’s written in the Bible: “Don’t worry about what to eat and what to wear tomorrow”. God will always provide what we really need.J
