冷冷的冬天
雖然很想介紹溫暖的地方讓大家看了覺得很舒服
可是因為我太喜歡今天要提的這個地方有的優勢了
好想去!!!!!
it's winter time !
I do want to write some places look warm and nice
but the place I am going to introduce is just soooo amazing
there are exactly what I want to see in person, I really want to go~~
今天要介紹的
是位於加拿大曼尼托巴省的邱吉爾鎮
It is the Town of Churchill in Manitoba, Canada
那麼，邱吉爾鎮有什麼吸引人之處呢?
光是聽地點和看地圖
就只覺得這是一個偏僻到不行的小地方啊
但是可千萬別小看它喔
小歸小，每年仍吸引上萬民眾前往
要那體驗著名的活動可是所費不貲
而且還不是花了錢就保證可以體驗到的呢
so, what's so special about this tiny town around Hudson Bay??
when you look it up on the map,
it's definitely a rural place.
but hey, don't underestimate it.
it might be tiny, but there are still more than 10 thousands people visit per year
all because they want to have some special experiences that need luck and money.
and of course, even though you spend a lot,
it is not a guarantee of experiencing the amazing things.
第一項體驗: 雪地裡看極光
極光本來就是得碰運氣的美景
邱吉爾鎮所在之處為北緯58度
比我之前去的(號稱)一年可以看極光天數最多的費爾班克斯(Fairbanks)還低了一點
所以機率當然也比較小
不過，如果可以同時看到北極熊和極光
聽起來也太幸福了~~~
First, watch northern light in the snow.
well, it takes chance to watch northern light no matter where you are.
Churchill is located at 58"N, you would think it shouldn't be so hard to see aurora.
but, even in Fairbanks, Alaska, the so-called
"the town you can see northern light in the most of days in an year)
I stayed 3 nights and didn't see it at all.
and, Fairbanks is located at 64"N.
There is the fact that this kind of experience takes luck
第二項體驗: 搭乘特製車觀看"野生"北極熊
邱吉爾號稱是北極熊比當地人口還多的鎮
由於邱吉爾位於哈德遜灣沿岸，為北極熊捕食重要區域
所以不時也有北極熊誤闖鎮上或攻擊人的新聞
(最近也因此有熊遭到獵殺，個人覺得是人類先侵犯了牠們的生活範圍
怎麼可以自私的說是牠們"危害"了人類安全，還奪取牠們的生命呢)
但是旅行團以及經營特製雪車的業者對於每次出發都還是有先聲明
野生動物無法人為控管，如果整趟行程沒有看到熊
也是有可能的
但是他們都以"保證看得到熊"做攬客口號
我想應該真的是不太可能沒看到吧
Second, get on the special truck and go say hi to "wild" polar bears.
people said there are more polar bear then residents in Churchill~
Since it is along the shore of Hudson Bay, the town is at the important trail for
polar bears to hunt.
there are some news about polar bears "intrude" the town (what they called
was "human territory" I think) or bears attack people
and some bears even got shot because we claimed they are endangering
our safety.
To me, it is human being took over their natural territory,
we think as if they know what they are doing, so we claimed they "intrude"
our territory. Then in this case, we, human, have the right to shoot them...
how selfish humans are.
anyway, tour agencies and companies with special truck for polar bears watching
told people that the tour does not guaranteed that you can see bears
since they are wild ones, it's out of their control if there is no bear shows up in the tour.
but they all "promised" that you will on the ads,
so I guess it has bigger chance than northern light watching.
第三項體驗: 出海看白鯨
白鯨主要分布於北緯50~80度之間
邱吉爾鎮(邱吉爾和河口)剛好也是白鯨聚集地
(約25000頭)
其實這裡對牠們來說非常危險
因為北極熊是牠們的天敵之一
當然，人類也是其中之一
因為牠們可為人類提供食物，燃油，及皮革等資源
而這項體驗當然就跟台灣的賞鯨豚行程一樣
號稱一定看得見
可是....還是要碰運氣的
Third, beluga whales watching!
Beluga whales live in 50"N to 80"N
and the estuary of Churchill River is one of the spot they love.
(about 25000 whales around that area)
but this spot is actually pretty dangerous to them,
because one of their natural enemies are polar bears.
and of course, human again.
Human beings can use their foods, oil, and skin.
Just like whale/dolphin watching in Taiwan,
you know it takes chance to spot them.
though they claimed you will see one for sure,
but you know you need to be lucky enough to see them.
邱吉爾鎮非常倚賴觀光業
每年有四五百人專程前往這偏僻的地方賞鳥
其中著名的是雪鴞(又稱雪貓頭鷹)
但與一般貓頭鷹不同的是
雪鴞是晝行性的喔~~
其實大家應該都有看過這種鳥
因為牠就是哈利波特電影中那隻嘿美 :)
this town relies on tourism a lot.
there are more than 400 to 500 people fly there just to see some birds.
and one of the special birds they have in here called Snowy Owl.
but different from most of the owls we know,
snowy owls are diurnal instead of nocturnal.
I am sure we all saw this bird, it's the same owl that Harry Potter owned !
綜合以上幾點
如果你熱愛北極熊和極光(跟我同好)
邱吉爾這個小地方就是我(們)的天堂啦~~~
To conclude,
if you love polar bears and northern light (like me)
you can be my best friend lol
No, I mean, Churchill would be my (our) paradise ~~~
