"Never Is A Promise" is a song from American singer/songwriter Fiona Apple's 1996 debut, Tidal, one of the greatest albums in the 1990s. The instrumental arrangement of the song sounds tranquil and peaceful but the emotional tensity in the lyrics is just too strong to conceal.
Quite some people thought that the song is about Apple being raped when she was 12. However, the background of the song was revealed in the November 1997 issue of Spin magazine. Apple wrote the song when she was only 15 and "trapped in a motel room with her parents", so the song is supposed to be about growing up and having trust issues with parents.
The singer/songwriter is releasing her long-awaited fourth studio album in June 2012.
