One can consider the new Mazdaspeed6 as the consolation automotive prize for the performance enthusiasts. On paper, it looked a lot similar to the super rockets such as Sti and Evo, but a closer examination begged to differ.

All three cars named above are powered by a big turbo charged four-cylinder engine, going through a permanent four-wheel drive system. But the similarity ends there. The Mazdaspeed6 has a much more refined character. Continuing the zoom zoom tradition, the exterior lines are macho and mature, most notably by the bulging hood and big 18" wheels.

Interior design is much more upscale than the Sti and Evo. Material used felt elegant and expensive. It is not as roomy as the Accord or Camry, but it can seat four adults comfortably.

The big turbo charged 2.3L four-cylinder engine produces 274 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque; very similar to the Sti and Evo. However, the delivery of this power is much more refined.

Permanent four-wheel drive provides plenty of grips. The overall dynamics is very good considering the family sedan origin. We can only wish for a sharper steering and better braking system.

This is a big toy for the matured enthusiasts. It needs little improvements to satisfy ones sporting wishes.
