The new GS has a very clean and chiseled look. It is very sporty, athletic, yet elegant. Unlike the previous GS which focused on the luxury side, the new GS is emphasized on the “sport” of the sport luxury sedan.

The new 4.3L V8 has ample power for any situation. It also mated well with the six-speed automatic transmission. 60 mph is only a tap on the accelerator away. Top speed is electronically limited at 149 mph.

The new chassis is very well tuned; it has a Bavarian feeling to it. Road feel is excellent; set the suspension on the “sport” mode, one can literally feel all the small bumps and dips of the roads, but the ride remain Lexus smooth and quiet. This is a big improvement over the previous generation’s boat-like float ness. Carving through corners, this big sedan felt nimble yet stable, easily maneuvered through tight switchbacks; body roll is kept at a minimum. This is truly a sport sedan designed with “driving” in mind.

Overall, we were very impressed with this new GS430. It departed from the traditional Lexus design philosophy and leaned toward BMW’s territory. This is definitely good news for all driving enthusiasts. For this new GS to become a success, Lexus needs to count on its loyal customers to love this new interpretation of their beloved GS; also the traditional Bavarian buyers to be impressed by the new GS’s balance and performance. We think both of these goals should be easily achieved by this mighty GS.
