A much married Nigerian man has bowed to pressure from local Islamic leaders to divorce 82 of his 86 wives to avoid an eviction order from his home area for violating religious norms, a news agency said Sunday.

一位成婚多次的奈及利亞男子，屈服於地方伊斯蘭領袖的壓力，與86名妻子中的82人離婚，以避免因違反宗教規範而被驅逐家園，一家媒體週日指出。

The Nigeria news agency reported that Mohammadu Bello Masaba, an 84-year-old from the central Niger state, "agreed on Saturday night to retain only four of the wives in accordance to the Holy Koran".

奈及利亞新聞社報導，來自中部尼日州的84歲老人馬撒巴「週六晚間同意，遵照神聖的可蘭經，僅保留4位妻子」。

On August 21, one of Nigeria’s top Islamic bodies had issued a death sentence for Masaba for contravening his religion’s rules. But days later the authorities gave him two days to vacate the area unless he divorced 82 of his wives.

奈國最高伊斯蘭機構之一在8月21日以違反宗教規則之名判定馬撒巴死刑。不過幾天後，當局給他兩天時間遷離該區，不然就與82名妻子離婚。

The news agency said that at a meeting with Islamic scholars in the area, Masaba agreed the demands and would commence the mass divorce process and relocation of the divorced wives.

該新聞社說，在與地方伊斯蘭學者會談後，馬撒巴同意要求，將著手進行浩大的離婚手續與安置離異妻子的工作。

Earlier Saturday Masaba had vowed to defy the authorities, saying he had not committed any offence and would stay put.

週六稍早，馬撒巴信誓旦旦的要反抗當局，堅稱他沒有犯下任何過錯，因此將不為所動。

"All my wives are with children and some of these are people I have married and stayed with for over 30 years, how can they expect me to leave them within two days," said Masaba

「我所有的妻子都生下兒女，當中有些與我結縭、生活超過三十年，她們怎能料想我會在兩天內離棄她們，」馬撒巴這麼說。
