Eating meat and dairy products may increase the risk of prostate cancer, research suggests.

吃肉與乳製品可能增加攝護腺癌風險，研究顯示。

Such a diet raises levels of a hormone called Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) which promotes cell growth.

這種飲食增加類似「第一型類胰島素生長因子」（IGF-1）這種可以促進細胞成長的荷爾蒙含量。

A University of Oxford team examined the results of 12 studies, featuring a total of nearly 9,000 men. They found men with high blood levels of IGF-1 were up to 40% more likely to develop prostate cancer than those with low levels.

牛津大學團隊檢視12份針對將近9000人的研究結果。他們發現血中IGF-1含量高者，罹患攝護腺癌的風險比血中IGF-1含量低者高4成。

IGF-1 plays a key role in the growth and development of children and adolescents.

IGF-1在孩童與青少年成長及發展扮演關鍵角色。

Lead researcher Dr Andrew Roddam said the degree to which diet influenced IGF-1 levels was unclear. But he said levels could be up to 15% higher in people who ate a lot of meat and dairy products.

領導研究人員羅丹說，還不清楚飲食會對血中IGF-1含量有多大的影響。但他說，吃大量肉食與乳製品的人，影響可能高達15%。

Dr Roddam said raised levels of IGF-1 were likely not only to increase the risk of developing prostate cancer, but also to aid the spread of tumours. However, he said there was no evidence to suggest that measuring IGF-1 levels could be used to develop a new test to screen for prostate cancer.

羅丹博士說，IGF-1的含量可能不只會增加罹患攝護腺癌的風險，還可能助長腫瘤擴散。但他說，沒有證據顯示，測量IGF-1含量，可以用來發展攝護腺癌篩檢的新檢測工具。
