他們上自己的學校 栽種自己的菜 畜養自己的家禽
沒有電視 沒有太多跟外在的接觸
昨天上課一個同學就是在他們的學校任教
分享了他在教學上的挑戰
因為學生說的語言是Hutterize
所有一切的宗教活動以德文為主
所以英文算是他們的第三語言
我聽著他所做的PRESENTATION
我一點都不覺得新奇
這不也是我每天時時刻刻的思路嗎?

語言的轉換和外界價值觀的衝突
當然對其他的加拿大人而言
大部分的人都只有英文 沒有第二語言
這些現象好似非常稀奇
但是對EAL LEARNER而言這真的不算啥
Sometimes I am thinking....
You, Canadians, who are monolingual
When will you understand the feeling of being EAL learner?
More and more immigrants come to Canada
But government does nothing for them to adjust to Canadian life
And you, mainstream teachers
You walk in this class and see me
When will you open your mind to accept me
When will you see that I could be the model of your EAL learners
When will you sit beside me and talk to me
When will you ask my feeling of being in this class
When will you really know your EAL learners in class
You walk away as stranger after class
You talk as professional in class
You think as giant in group work
You look at international students as quiet idiot
But.....
You would never know what you missed
You would never know me
You would never know I could open your eyes
You would never know
your EAL learners are screaming in your class
but you are unable to do anything for them
好久沒吐吐苦水了
只覺得加拿大政府吸引大量的移民入境
卻沒有非常好的政策安頓他們的生活
只想到政府稅收和生產力吧
這些老師每天面對無法聽懂英文的移民小孩
不知道該怎麼教學
到大學來修學分 仍然看不見國際學生的存在
我也只好舉白旗說 我服了你們
你們還是待在你的世界吧!
EAL---The term replaces ESL in MB
Because English is always learner’s second language.
English could be learners’ third or fourth language.
