Same-sex Marriage in Taiwan? Thoughts needed

Same-sex marriage has become a "right" included in the US constitution. It is expected that this issue will be highlighted in the coming ROC presidential election and possibly also become lawful in Taiwan in the very near future if we do not act now.
As Christian, our stand is crystal clear! However, besides “Bible is against gay marriage”, is there something else we can say to win non-Christian people to God’s side? This discussion is super important! Please click here to join discussion! Any thought is welcomed!

Tina:

It should not a war between gay and Christian
We discussed it during lunch break, and we do worry about the direction where the public opinion is now going.

Gay orgs. are good at marketing! We see recently happy faces of gay couple and their adopted children all over TV and Internet. People are saying to Christian: why on earth do you want to destroy those happy families? We need to prepare better argument and tell the world that this is not a war between Christian and gay communities

Keen: introducing new perspective
If the public see this as a disagreement between gay communities and Christian communities, I think we will lose. However, if we can introduce deeper reality like this issue is about national security (as it will seriously affect the constitution of population) and it will eventually become everyone's problem, then we still have a chance.

Evidence on parenting by same-sex couples is inadequate (KJ)
A number of leading professional associations have asserted that there are "no differences" between children raised by homosexuals and those raised by heterosexuals. But the research in this area is quite preliminary; most of the studies are done by advocates and most suffer from serious methodological problems. Sociologist Steven Nock of the University of Virginia, who is agnostic on the issue of same-sex civil marriage, offered this review of the literature on gay parenting as an expert witness for a Canadian court considering legalization of same-sex civil marriage:

Through this analysis I draw my conclusions that 1) all of the articles I reviewed contained at least one fatal flaw of design or execution; and 2) not a single one of those studies was conducted according to general accepted standards of scientific research.

This is not exactly the kind of social scientific evidence you would want to launch a major family experiment.

This is how most people see us! Be alert!!
Christian community in America put on a great fight against gay "marriage". At the same time, check this video and see if you can get more insights about this opinion war. You are not going to enjoy it.

A very trying time with few options
Obama is very open about his support to gay "marriage", and he took the office for two terms. I think in the coming presidential election in ROC, candidates will have no choice but show support to gay community to gain popularity (I hope I am wrong). The only thing the Christian communities in Taiwan can do and should do is to postpone the relating discussion to other time so more rational opinions can be heard. And the only way to do this is to demonstate it on the street. Sorry, no other way! And Christian communities in Taiwan should now prepare to do that!

Jean (KJ): Hope Taiwan is not the next place to fall
My prayer is that Taiwan will not be the next place to fall.

While we see church communities here in Taiwan acted passively and powerlessly last week, Christian communities in the US have put huge resources (articles, video, debates, sharing experiences) onto the Internet for our references. And we should dig into it and prepare our fight!

Steve (KJ) a article by a pastor
Great article from a pastor! He points out 5 things for us to ponder upon:

Article links: http://careynieuwhof.com/2015/06/some-advice-on-same-sex-marriage-for-us-church-leaders-from-a-canadian/

1. The church has always been counter-cultural

2. It’s actually strange to ask non-Christians to hold Christian values

3. You’ve been dealing with sex outside of traditional marriage for a LONG time

4. The early church never looked to the government for guidance

5. Our judgment of LGBT people is destroying any potential relationship

However, it does not mean we should go with the flow and sit by the sideline. We are responsible to manage the world as best as we can. That's one major reason why God put us in this world.

Note that we should fight Satan, not gay people! Not mention to hate them.

Kevin (KJ) The temptation and reality
The temptation, then, is for Christians go silent and give up the marriage fight: “It’s no use staying in this battle,” we think to ourselves. “We don’t have to change our personal position. We’ll keep speaking the truth and upholding the Bible in our churches, but getting worked up over gay marriage in the public square is counter productive. It’s a waste of time. It makes us look bad. It ruins our witness. And we’ve already lost. Time to throw in the towel.” I understand that temptation. It is an easier way. But I do not think it is the right way, the God glorifying way, or the way of love.

The reality is, every time the issue of gay marriage has been put to a vote by the people, the people have voted to uphold traditional marriage. Even in California. In fact, the amendment passed in North Carolina on Tuesday by a wider margin (61-39) than a similar measure passed six years ago in Virginia (57-42). The amendment passed in North Carolina, a swing state Obama carried in 2008, by 22 percentage points. We should not think that gay marriage in all the land is a foregone conclusion. To date 30 states have constitutionally defined marriage as between a man and a woman.

Wake up! People!

voice in the wilderness
Allowing for the legalization of gay marriage further normalizes what was until very recently, and still should be, considered deviant behavior. While it’s true that politics is downstream from culture, it’s also true that law is one of the tributaries contributing to culture. In our age of hyper-tolerance we try to avoid stigmas, but stigmas can be an expression of common grace. Who knows how many stupid sinful things I’ve been kept from doing because I knew my peers and my community would deem it shameful. Our cultural elites may never consider homosexuality shameful, but amendments that define marriage as one man and one woman serve a noble end by defining what is as what ought to be. We do not help each other in the fight for holiness when we allow for righteousness to look increasingly strange and sin to look increasingly normal.

Breaking News: Gay Marriage in Taiwan

This is one of my many reasons to support BLUE POWER in Taiwan. ^^

Top two presidential candidates in Taiwan have aired their support for gay marriage. This is the reality of politics
Source: http://www.taiwannews.com.tw/etn/news_content.php?id=2761117

Democratic Progressive Party Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen expressed her approval of developments in the US by posting a rainbow-colored logo with the word “equality” on her Facebook page, but she said there was no consensus in Taiwan on the issue yet, so more dialogue would be needed to bring the two sides closer together.

Her likely rival in the January 16 presidential election, Legislative Vice Speaker Hung Hsiu-chu, wrote the message “Only with more dialogue and communication will true equality come.” She said she supported “all the people who love each other” and would promote more dialogue to reach a consensus.

Hung’s party, the Kuomintang, called for respect for diverse opinions, allowing “the rainbow to be seen.”
