Brian's 1st Golf Tournament

Finally, I decided to sign up Brian for his 1st Golf tournament. As a matter of fact, I didn't think he was ready for tournaments. However, his coach, Greg, told me everyone has to start at some place. There is no perfect time to start playing tournaments. Therefor, today became the big day, Brian's 1st tournament.


The tournament is US Kids Golf Winter Local Tour. US Kids Golf is probably the most popular golf club vendor for junior golf in US. They hosts local tours, regional tours, and the world tour. The other major junior golf club vendor is probably Callaway, who host Junior World Golf Championship in San Diago every summer.

The local tour is an easier tournament compared to others. That said, this event draws 150 kids nevertheless. Brian is 8 year old but he is in the BOYS 9 group because they use the last tournament date as the cut off day. Brian doesn't really want to play against bigger kids. We told him to just have fun since this is his 1st.




Brian didn't do very well today. He is not used to the soft fairway on this course. He hit it fat almost every shot. In his group, the other kids already have plenty of tournament experience and one of them, Chase, even got the 5th place in this year's World Championship. After playing about 5 holes, Brian got really frustrated and started not to cooperate with me, which made me close to being mad. I even questioned myself if this is a good decision to let him play in a tournament.



In the end, he shut 48 (nine holes, par 35). The other kids in his group got 2nd and 3rd places. Brian could have played better if he had been placed in a different group so he wouldn't be so intimidated. Well, the game is already ended and Brian is happy again because I bought him a new set of brush tees as a gift for his 1st tournament. Hopeful he will do better in the next event.

Great, Brain attend hid first tournament, I am so envy of him. 48 is not good for him, but good for me, so you can see how long I don't touch the club.
