【 Seeing something marvelous, Killer Jiau(角). 】
1. The Summary of the Story
This story was happened in Jan Guo－an era of chaos. (戰國時代)
At the meantime, the strongest party—The Chin, who wanted to rule China. It was an obvious premonition then.
Every party fought with Chin, and no one could beat Chin at all. It should be worried by the people of the other six countries. But there was nobody or the government officer, who really cared about such a thing.
However, there still were many people, such as Jing Ke(荊軻)、Fan Wu Chi(樊於期) and Gau Jian Li (高漸離), whose goal in life is to kill the king of The Chin, letting people free from care.
The man who has his own ambition usually doesn’t live long.
The prince of Yen --Dan (燕太子丹) was angry about Fan Wu Chi married Su Shan Er (素仙兒), who was a famous entertainers, this was the signal for Yen’s prince-- Dan to kill Fan Wu Chi. Then at a party which was on the boat, Yen’s crown prince-- Dan asked Fan Wu Chi to have a martial arts competition with Jiao(角). Jing Ke knew this was a trap from Yen’s crown prince --Dan, so he asked to substitute for Fan Wu Chi to compete with Jiao. The swords have no eyes, Jiao was chopped an arm by Jing Ke. Then Jing Ke held Jiao in his hand, and left away. This made Yen’s crown prince --Dan very angry, letting him really want to kill Fan Wu Chi.
One day, Jing Ke and Fan Wu Chi were talking about how to get into Chin’s Palace and Gau Jian Li was beside them. Suddenly, there were a lot of killers over there outside their house. Jing Ke and Fan Wu Chi got out killing those killers to save Gau Jian Li. But they were dead soon after that day.
Before Jing Ke was dead, he performed a set of “The Best Sword of The World’s Third Invincible” for Jiao. This made Jiao couldn’t forget.
Later, Jiao could hold his sword tight again. He started practicing his fencing. His fencing was still vicious, he still had his high speed of moving. But his substance of his fencing has been very different from the old days. The importance of the sword’s spirit is to sacrifice. This is what Jiao never thought of in the past. Nowadays, Jiao brought this new thought with him and used Jing Ke’s name to get into Chin’s Palace to kill the king. To realize the dream that Jing Ke and Fan Wu Chi wanted to let it come true.
2. Friendship
The first one I want to discuss is the friendship between Jing Ke(荊軻) and Fan Wu Chi(樊於期).
A justice needs to be done, and that is Jing Ke & Fan Wu Chi’s great plan： to assassinate the emperor of Chin. there is a sense of honor and justice that is crossed over by huge heroism, and a sad warrior’s song that was written in heroic spirit.
And the second one is the friendship between Jing Ke and Jiau.
The relationship between them is very special. They are not enemies or friends. They first used their swords talking with a drastic way: to fight with each other by their sword. This made Jiao think that they are enemies. After the fight, Jiao was taken away by Jing Ke, and was told some personal reflections about the spirit between the sword player and the sword by Jing Ke. But Jiao didn’t understand. So he decided to stay and to see what did Jing Ke really mean. He thought they were still enemies at that time.
Then, the prince of Yen –Dan gave an order：Kill Jing Ke and Fan Wu Chi. and Jing Ke were toxic. In the end of Jing Ke’s life, he played the “best sword in the world’s best fencing” to Jiao, and this made him felt that he was too far behind in his fencing skill to catch up with, Jing Ke’s. Unfortunately, Jiao still thought they are enemies, but Jing Ke was the one he admirable.
3. Sword
“I agree that every sword players should die for his sword. But before that moment, the sword player should survive in any event. And this is the reason for the sword to live. Outwardly it’s going to be declassed to survive, or maybe lingered. But there is a reason to be alive. And the movements are all open and aboveboard, full of youth,” said Jing Ke to Jiau in the book.
Jiau’s sword is different from Jing Ke’s and heir limits are also different. Jiau’s sword is flimsy and sharp, but Jing Ke’s sword is beneficial on hew and chop. One is sober, while the other is blithe. When Jing Ke lunges, it always brings righteousness. When Jiau lunges, it always brings a ruthless mind to be dead.
4. Killing Methods
Jiao is a killer, not a sword player. So he usually used a backstabber to mess up his antagonists’ mind. Then having an unfair fight. To him, there is only victory, but no justice.
5. The Angle of Justice
Jiao doesn’t have any concept of who is good guy or bad guy. He kills people that his master told him. He doesn’t even care about who was killed. He only cares about how to make his fencing and speed faster.
6. Compares Jiao and Jing Ke
Jiao thinks that as a sword player and a killer, he shouldn’t be afraid of death. So he becomes a person that doesn’t care about being alive or death. Because of this, Jiao becomes the best sword player. And this makes his sword doesn’t care about its owner’s life. But Jing Ke is different. He thinks that when people are alive, they are worth to do something. Besides, whenever your heart is leaping, you have a justice to be done; if you were died, you will have nothing, and you will lose everything.
When they were fighting, the difference became more and more large.
Every time when Jiao attack Jing Ke, there was a lot of destination of death in his assailment. When his momentum got weaker, he had to put more intension to complement his momentum. When Jing Ke attacked, there was full of righteousness. He felt sick to see how Jiao used his sword.
