Yoshitsune, a trageic military legend of Japan history, had been adapted to being ”Taiga” the sequential drama twice, first time at 1966 and second at 2005. Recently, our local TV set (Videoland Japan) purchased the broadcasting authority from NHK and annixed with Mandarin translation. I ignored due to slightly comprehending of Japanese and no subtitles; however, with Mandarin translation, I begin to devote myself into probing his versatile and legendary life span.
Being the clan of Genji (Minamoto), he had a pathetic start. He and his mother had been raised by patricide, Taira Kioymori (平 清盛), who adored the beauty. Thus, he was naive and once recognized Kioymori to be father in childhood. Afterall, though Kiyomori pampered and was likely to raise Ushiwakamaru (牛若丸) as his own son, he sent him to Buddhist temple to quench doubt and disunity of Heike clan. Shanaou (刹那王), be renamed in the period of serving Buddha, gradually comprehened that either Kiyomori or Heike are antagonists to him. Reluctently to comply Heike’s edict to be a monk, he left Koyto ahead toward Oushu (奧州) to seek for Fujiwarano Hidehira (藤原秀衡)’s protection and settled with his vassels almost a decade. At the age of 22 he participated Minamoto Yoritomo (源 賴朝)’s army camp when he heard his brother was construting an army to oppose Heike. Yoshitsune defeated two primal adversaries for his brother. The anterior is Minamoto no Yoshinaka (木曾義仲), his cousin, for the flagrant deportments like raping women and ransacking the populace of his army at Koyto; and the posterior, the Taira (Heike), forced them to tragedic suicide--jumping into the sea.
Nonetheless, it generated conjecture from Yoritomo that Yoshitsune founded so much honor and admiration would be intimidated his authority. Furthermore, he apprehended that Yoshitsune had charisma to enthrall companies to give their greatest fidelity and had excellent combat capability. He distrusted, belittled and then precluded such as impeding him to enter Koyto when he took POW of Taira. Though Hidehira consigned his heirs and requested them to follow Yoshitsune’s lead to expel Kamakura’s attack, Fujiwara no Yasuhira, son and clan’s next heir, betrayed his father’s will and forced Yoshitsune have to be ”Seppuku” (kind of suicide by samurai to express loyal and spirit of mushido that be abdomen incised) with wife and daughter owing to awing Kamakura’s pressure. The Kamakura also caught Yoshitsune’s concubine, Sitsuka (靜), conceived, but the boy was miserably murdered. ”Any of kiths an kins was neccesarily to be slaughtered for avoiding the retaliation.” The best example was reflecting.
It is a great sequel drama that had been broadcasting on NHK and gained lots of good responses from Japanese. Though some critics reprehended too much fictional particulars and apotheosis produced, it enshrimes, for Japanese, as fair tale comparing with occident’s Beowulf (it newly is showing up as Holliwood film). So don’t hesitate to get the remote and turn on the TV, to see is to believe!
