This All-Natural Acne Skin-Care Routine Is Going Viral on Instagram

Apparently, people prefer getting their skin-care recommendations from Instagram these days. A model named Brianna Lopez has been getting more likes on one of her posts detailing her complete routine for clearing up acne than her follower count. (Admittedly, her skin looks so good and incredibly glow-y that I would want to know her skin-care secrets if I stumbled upon her Instagram myself.) Her post broke down every single product she slathers onto her combination skin, and she shared before-and-after pictures to prove just how effective they all are. She even said she saw her skin calming down within a week after using her routine. Now, six months later, Lopez is in a good place: "My skin is improving every day," she says. "But I felt comfortable in my skin within, like, two and a half months."

"But I felt comfortable in my skin.

So what exactly does her viral routine consist of? A lot of natural products. Lopez starts off her routine by cleansing with 100 percent pure jojoba oil. Her favorite is from Trader Joe's, but Desert Essence's 100% Pure Jojoba Oil is a good option, too. As California-based dermatologist Karyn Grossman has told Allure, the natural oil can actually combat oiliness and prevent breakouts. Jojoba oil has a similar structure to skin's sebum, which are the natural oils that clog pores and cause breakouts, so it tricks the skin into not producing it. After rubbing the jojoba oil on her skin to melt away makeup and grime, Lopez wipes it off with a home double-cleansing action.

Next, Lopez whips up a mask made out of a dollop of raw honey, which is naturally antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, with about half of a teaspoon of turmeric (another antibacterial ingredient that is said to help clear up acne), and cinnamon. The latter spice helps boosts circulation for a more radiant complexion and helps fight acne, too. Lopez leaves the concoction on for about an hour before rinsing it off. She added that she also likes doing a mask made out of sulfur or bentonite clay, but the honey one is her favorite. (On days when she doesn't wear makeup, she'll skip masking, though.)

Then, Lopez moisturizes with the Shea Terra Organics Rose Hips & Carrot Perfecting Serum and moisturizing Doterra Lavender Oil. The serum is formulated with rosehip seed oil, which is rich in vitamins that help fade acne scars and anti-microbial linoleic acid, and carrot seed oil, which stimulates cell growth and cleanse the skin of toxins.

At night, Lopez follows those oils up by spot treating her breakouts with raw shea butter. (Try SheaMoisture's 100% Raw Shea Butter.)ng, though, Lopez skips the spot treatment and applies the Raw Elements Eco Formula 30+ Lotion, a sunscreen, after moisturizing.

The last step of Lopez's routine doesn't go on her face. Instead, Lopez takes a handful of herbal supplements including aforementioned turmeric, milk thistle, burdock roill follow," Lopez tells Allure. I highly recommend consulting your doctor and/or dermatologist before following this step of Lopez's routine, though. As Lopez tells me, "Everyone's skin is different, so what worked for mine may not work for others." This applies to the herbal supplements, too.

With many viral skin-care routines touting drugstore and indie products, Lopez definitely offers up some all-natural options to take into consideration. I might just have to try out that honey and spice mask. It seems like the perfect winter treat for my skin.
