The
owner of the hotel said to Jessica, “If I have friends biking
around the world over 25000 km for 23 months (and get to Taiwan),
then it’s their turn to pay my friends’ boarding expense.”
This
happened in Duiven, Netherlands, a small town that I had never heard
about before.
In the distance I saw an American style chain fast
food restaurant. This was our second day in Netherlands. I planned to
park outside the restaurant to make use of the wireless internet.
However, I noticed I had a flat tire, so I had to fix it first, thus
I took out all my tools to change the inner tube of the tire.
Jessica, the manager of the fast food restaurant, spotted 2
foreigners in bike suits and with fully loaded bicycles, so she came
out of the store during the busy hours to ask if we needed any
assistance. We surely could feel the friendliness in this little
town. A gentleman just informed us about the tourist spots and now
the store manager came to show her concern.
While pumping the
air into the tire, I told her about our crazy honeymoon bike trip.
Upon hearing that, Jessica said to us, “How marvelous! You must be
hungry. Put away your tools and come in. Let me treat you to lunch
today! Eat anything you want for the meal and desserts.’
Wow,
they even serve veggie burgers.
With smiles in her face,
Jessica led us to a sun-drenched table, ‘Enjoy your lunch.
Meanwhile, I am going to ask my good friend to see if he is willing
to sponsor you to stay in his hotel. He owns the hotel next door.
Maybe you will have a chance to take a shower and have a good rest
there.’
Soon after we finished the meals, Jessica returned
with good news.
This
was what the owner of the hotel said to Jessica, “ If I have
friends biking around the world over 25000 km for 23 months, then it
would be their turn to pay my friends’ boarding expense,” when
she asked him if he would provide the boarding to 2 cyclists from
Taiwan, traveling around the world.
How
nice! We could stay in a hotel tonight.
After
desserts, we headed to Hotel
Gieling Duiven. http://www.hotelgieling.nl
Now, we
had been upgraded from a 3-star tent to a 3-star hotel, free of
charge. This was the first time we stayed in a hotel in Europe.
A
big comfortable living room
Even
a free breakfast in the following morning
Thanks
to the
kind Nederlanders, we had a wonderful day after fully resting. We
continued our journey.
