From Greeceto Bulgaria, it took more energy for us to ride because we had tobike on mostly hills.  Past the Bulgarian customs at theborder, there’s no shoulder on the road for about 150km.  Wehad to ride side-by-side with the trucks when they sped by in bothdirections. 

Longdistance rides plus a fever took a toll on Yi.  The sun wasup; golden sunlight shone on Yi's face revealing tears flowingbecause a deep sense of helplessness had eroded her will tocontinue.  I held her in my arms, hoping I could give hersome strength. 

 

Both of us feltweak out of the blue on the 3^rd dayin Greece. No where could we find any shade under trees for camping,so we slept under a bridge. Last time I had a fever was one year ago,June 2010 in Northern Australiasoon after my long hair was cut.

This time I think it’s probablybecause our bodies had not acclimated to the new environments. Weslept for 16 hours. With enough rest, we felt better.

 Yi’sstomach was upset for a week. It’s my turn to take care ofher. 

 

Yi was comforted by reading the Bible.She felt she did not perform well, but God told her, ‘You haddone better than I have bestowed you.’ Although it’s kind ofdangerous riding along the roads in Bulgaria, Yi had the sense ofcalm from reading Psalm 121: The LORD himself watches over you!

Yi,the LORD is your guardian and I will cook and wash for you.  Yigradually composed herself, no more sadness and depression. 

Yesterdaywe camped near a river.  There’s plenty of water. We havebought food sufficient  for 3 days. We decided to restunder the tree for a day.  Having a good rest would allowus to advance farther.

 

Wehave been taking care of each other on our 21 month journey sofar.  With outdoors living, rain or shine, we are gettingstronger physically and understanding each other better.

  

Yijust said to me, ‘We are going to ride 100km to catch up with ourplanned schedule.’ It sounded she recovered, so did I.  Let’s hitthe road.
