My Vision , My World
Christians -believe that people are struggling with sin which has existed in people's mind since they were born. They call it original sin or people's sinful nature. Therefore, those who live according to their sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires (Bible). I have asked myself whether this is true or not. I myself have exhibited many selfish behaviors in the past, and undoubtedly, will exhibite them in the future. Those repeated mistakes remind me that I can't control my behaviors sometimes. However, can I say that those selfish behaviors are caused by human's sinful nature or are just excuses people created to forgive themselves? Can I control my behavior and my mind?
I believe that there exist no sins in this world. A sin is an offense against religious or moral law. People's some selfish behaviors symbolize the common struggle of animals struggling to survive. Without religious and moral judgement, there exist no sins at all. However, who have made those religious or moral laws? Suppose there exist no religious or moral laws, will people consider their behaviors sinful? Are children who have stolen ﹝a term which is created by human beings﹞food from other people guilty or not? If we consider behaviors from this perspective, there exist no sins at all. As Albert Camus (1993) once said, "I have searched for the causes of evil and could not find them, but I have learned what to do for there to be one less child that is tortured. "
However, why do people make those religious and moral laws? Is it because people believe in truth, justice and goodness or do we create those religious and moral laws for our survival?
It is my belief that we create those religious and moral laws for our survival first. Imagine this picture. Two people each with an arrow in his hand stand in front of a dead deer. Who has killed this deer? Who has the right to own this loot? What is a better way for them to own this deer? Is it better to kill each other in order to get this deer or to share it? Those problems must have helped our ancestors to begin to realize that they needed boundaries to work with each other. In addition, the more that people begin to realize the importance of setting boundaries, the better they survive in the world.
The limitations and boundaries which we have created for our survival are the same as our religious and moral laws. They are created by our ancestors in an attempt to help them to survive. Therefore, the more we create our boundaries, the stricter they become. Those boundaries, today, we call them religious and moral laws.
