Last night we discussed The Awakening....
Before starting to talk this work, my mind has already considered two works, first one is Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, and the other one is John Steinback’s Chrysanthemum.
In spite of their different choices, they still have some characters which seem very closer and similar as well. (not talking ENDing)
Now ask you some questions.
COULD you accept your husband or wife having an affair???

However, in Kate Chopin’s The Awakening, Edna’s husband Leonce is generally preoccupied with business and has no time to care of his wife. But it doesn’t mean that he does not love his wife; otherwise, in a different meaning, he trusts his wife, Edna. According to Edna’s self awakening, she gives up the social responsibility including her moral rules and children, but she has an affair with somebody else.
Not only does her soul release, but merely her body gets freedom. To her mind, she doesn’t want to live under the patriarchal ideology, that is, a wife should bring children and make things great in a house as well as no more role play in a marriage. Moreover, she finds herself through the affair even just for a while. Does she really awaken?? It should be temporary. She enjoys solitude by herself and no more social interaction even refusing to join her sister’s wedding. Closing mind and choosing to commit suicide do express her unreal awakening. How could you find yourself in your marriage? Do you really need to get married?
Perhaps, the experts will say that you should build the Justice both of each other and trust your dear. Do you accept that? If your mind is mature to have a family, you can do that so. Therefore, if you don’t, the suggestion is that you shouldn’t easily touch what doesn’t belong to you.
