Dear Ms Yow,
Thank you for your feedback.
With regards to the issue highlighted, the explanation are as follows.
There are several reasons why FairPrice has decided to accept selected credit cards for payment at our stores. In summary, we are trying to strike a balance between passing cost savings to our customers and providing them with better service. Most banks impose a high interchange fee for the use of their credit cards. At FairPrice, it is our mission to keep our operational costs low so that we can pass on whatever cost savings to our customers in the form of lower prices and better rebates. If FairPrice were to accept all types of credit cards at our outlets for payment, the higher operational costs will ultimately impact on the cost of goods and services sold at our stores.
Hence, we have worked hard to have an exclusive business arrangement with OCBC Bank to jointly launch FairPrice Plus as an affordable means to provide credit card facility as well as other financial banking services to our customers. Besides FairPrice Plus card, we also accept the NTUC-OCBC cobrand debit/credit card for payment at all our outlets as it is riding on the same financial infrastructure as the FairPrice Plus card.
However, there are five outlets that are currently accepting other credit cards for payment. They are: FairPrice Xtra at Ang Mo Kio Hub and Hougang Point, FairPrice at Killiney Road and Changi Airport and FairPrice Homemart at Simei MRT station. We have offered credit card payment options at these stores as they are located at the tourist belts, and we do not want to discriminate tourists from making purchases from these stores. You may also wish to know that these arrangements are already in place before we introduced FairPrice Plus to all FairPrice stores earlier this year.
We trust that consumers would prefer to enjoy greater convenience and better services without having to pay a higher price for such services. That is what we have been trying to achieve with FairPrice Plus.
We greatly appreciate your feedback with regards to this matter for we always welcome any suggestions or queries that can help us to improve our services to customers. Rest assured that your feedback has been taken into account as we will review the needs of our customers regularly to ensure that our services remain relevant.
As for the inconvenience and embarrassment that you have experience, we are deeply sorry and would like to extend our sincerest apologies.
Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us at our toll-free customer service hotline at 1800 552 2722. Alternatively, you may also email us at general.feedback@fairprice.com.sg.
Thank you for shopping with FairPrice and we look forward to serving you again.
Yours sincerely,
