關於這段旅程
其中的一個旅伴用英文描述了整個過程
We didn’t hit a kangaroo or drive over the speed limit.
I reckoned the driver was just tired and didn’t focus on his driving. Therefore, our car rolled over.
Fortunately, we (five of us) didn’t get seriously injured, except the driver. He had scratches on his arm, and was sent to the hospital to have a surgery on his scratches.
Though we had a car accident, the rest of us still decided to continue our journey.
We were on half of way to our destination, and the place where we had an accident was outback. There’s only one roadhouse and one petrol station. No buses ran on Christmas holidays, and thus no even needed to mention a rental company. It’s outback!!! There was nothing but wild animals.
We lost our car, and it was impossible to travel in WA without a car.
All we could do was to travel by hitchhiking.
We stayed in Billabong, the outback, for a night.
The next day we hitchhiked in a very early morning from Billabong to Carnarvon town city which was about 400 km. There were two rental companies in Carnarvon, Budget and Avis. We were still on our bad luck. It’s 26th of Dec, a boxing day. The car rental companies would not open till 27th of Dec. Therefore, we had to stay in Carnarvon Back Packers for another night waiting for the opening time of the rental company.
It was so expensive to rent a car in a small town. All we could do was to rend a car heading to Coral Bay, stayed a night there, and back to Carnarvon on 28th of Dec. After returning the car, we decided to hitchhike again. (Due to the Christmas holiday, there were no buses from Carnarvon to Perth until 30th of Dec. Besides, It would cost us more than $1200 AU to rent a car back to Perth.)
We couldn’t take all of our belongings. We had to dump some stuff in Carnarvon. We hitchhiked from Carnarvon all the way down to Geraldton, which is about 500km. (Five of us had to separate into two groups to go hitchhiking.)
When we arrived Geraldton, we decided to stay another night there. But one of my friends had to go back immediately coze his flight to Adelaide was next day in the very early morning. It meant we had to separate two groups again. One group stayed in Geraldton and took a bus back to Perth next day. I accompanied with my friend trying hitchhiking back to Perth. It was 6pm, not very easy to hitchhike. It’s unsafe to drive after sunset in AU. We hitchhiked from town petrol station to another petrol station. We met a really nice OZ guy who was willing to give us a lift back to Perth, which is about 500 km. After dropping us at my rental place, he had to drive two hours back to his place. We were not heading in the same direction, but he is so kind to give us a ride. I really appreciated what he had done to us. Not even mentioned it was at a very late night.
I had a very special Christmas holidays which I will never forget it.
