Each illustration of Grandfather’s Journey is like a photograph. The whole picture book is like a family’s album. The story of the book is a family history.

Grandfather’s journey travels between Japan and the United States. He loves both countries very much. His grandson’s journey is quite similar to his. His grandson loves both countries as well. It seems that his grandson inherits not only his longing for the New World, but also his homesickness for the homeland.

His grandson says in this book, ”The funny thing is, the moment I am in one country, I am homesick for the other.” I felt the same way since I moved to Austin four years ago.

I miss my family, old friends and the food of Taiwan when I stay in Austin. I miss my friends in Austin, the hills and the trees of Austin when I stay in Taiwan.
