從小失去家人的孤兒小路，是個科學狂，喜歡發明東西卻常常失敗，甚至導致好幾次領養失敗，有一天他夢想著有一天要找到自己的家人。小路是個充滿想像力的小孩，為了尋找家人他發明了一個機器「記憶掃描機」，藉著這個能夠重拾過去記憶的機器，希望可以藉此幫助他圓夢。然而這項偉大的發明卻遭黑帽怪偷竊！

當他萬念俱灰時，一個來自未來世界的男孩小威出現了，小威帶領他穿越時空抵達未來，小路發現，未來世界中，全世界的命運居然掌握在自己手中…但更重要的是，小路能不能在未來找到自己未曾謀面的家人呢？

相較之下，[未來小子]與其他的迪士尼動畫相比，劇情上是薄弱了一些，在小威家人的關係圖上又搞的複雜，故意要天馬行空，可是卻無法讓小孩有興趣了解，章魚管家、會唱歌的青蛙...，這些讓人覺得莫名其妙，未來世界這個主題城市又有點普通，不過沒看過的發明卻是琳瑯滿目。

迪士尼的動畫通常帶著正面，勵志的態度給小孩子們看，教導孩子不要怨天尤人，就像電影最後說的：

Around here ,however,we don't look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward ,opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious...

And curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
