Standing on the top of the world famous "Arc de Triomphe",

from which twelve avenues radiated out,

I looked down to the city of Paris. 

Napoleon's voice seems to echo in the air two hundred years later in the summer of 2009.

從凱旋門的頂端望下 , 整個巴黎的十二條大道星狀幅射出去.

香榭麗大道兩旁高大的梧桐修剪整齊 , 如同兩面綠牆.

巴黎鐵塔遙遙相望.

He said to his soldiers in 1806,

"You will march home through arches of victory."

下班時刻

下班的車輛與觀光客一起擠在香榭麗大道

Napoleon liked ancient Rome.

He wanted the monument to dominate Paris

and to be on the site of the Bastille to the east of Paris,

the side from which his armies would return from the war.

法國人建此來迎接凱旋的拿破崙軍隊




During its construction from 1806 to 1836,

the Arc de Triomphe endured the ups and downs of political upheaval.

落成時 拿破崙已不在人間

每天全世界遊客來此買票參觀

一張成人票九歐元 約四百一十元台幣

In 1836, years after Napoleon's death, for its inauguration,

it resumed it primary vocation:

to glorify the armies of the Republic and the Empire.

陣亡將士名單全在牆上

The monument then witnessed major national events

 兩百年的石雕靜靜見證歷史



such as the return of Napoleon's ashes  from Island of Helena in 1840

也見證被毒死於放逐小島的拿破崙遺骨返鄉

and the parade to celebrate the liberation of Paris in 1944.

石板地依舊是國慶閱兵必經之處

Up until 1895, the names of battles and generals of the wars conducted by France

during the Revolution and under the Empire were engraved on the inside walls.

 古戰士陪伴青天

We reached the top of the arche of victory by climbing up and down 284 steps.

It seems that  the voice of French people are still flying in the air,

"Liberty, Equality, Ferternity."

我們爬兩百八十四個石階上去

又兩百八十四個石階下來

石階訴說兩百年前法國人响往民主的吶喊:

"自由 ,平等 ,博愛"

就是前仆後繼的吶喊

它墊定了法國今日的民主與繁榮.
