Submission"--directed by Theo van Gogh, who was murdered brutally in front of the public as a result of its making. "Submission" is a 12 minute movie which was broadcasted in a Dutch television. The flim protrays a beaten, naked woman with the Quran inscripted in her body. The central figure of the making of this movie is Ayaan Hirsi, a 35-year-old Muslim woman who took asylum in the Netherlands and gradually working herself from a factory worker to a member of the Dutch Parliament. Due to her act against the Quran, she is now under death threat by radical Muslims.
I’ve seen her interview today and had been thinking about the issue between religion and civilization. It’s somewhat an unexplained phenomenon that for so many centuries (or for the entire history of mankind), religion was always above law and humanity. I’m not trying to ’attack’ religion as a whole, i’m just pointing out that certain parts of certain religions are just ridiculous... and that a religion is a type of philosophy (at least for me), so it shan’t be above the law.. For instance, did you know that deaths in the Vetican are not prompt to legal investigations?! Dunno if anyone of you know about the case of Pope John Paul I who died a month after he took his position as a Pope and his death, until now is still a mystery. Though there were so many details of his death that lead us to believe that he was killed, no case was raised since well, they say he died of a heart-attack so he must have died of a heart-attack..the priests says so!! for goodness sake....
ooops, i’m swimming myself away from what i was talking about.. "Submission" actually is part of a scheme raising public attention on how the Quran suppresses women and abusing them (even life threatening). She called the Koran "a license for oppression", very well put.
i respect religion.. i don’t think i’m anyone to judge what’s wrong and what’s right.. but i think i CHOOSE to respect a religion as long as it’s not on behalf of anyone’s misery~
