Own Rights VS Society Values

Everyone has their own rights. They can choose what to do, when to do it, where to do it, why doing it and how to do it. But, there are some people who don’t have this right. Not that they don’t want it, it is because they don’t have the chance to choose for themselves.

Take Shakespeare’s famous play of Romeo and Juliet for example. Picking the one you truly love as your wife seems to be a reasonable thing for us, doesn’t it? But a few hundred years back, there was no such thing. You were told to be married to who by your parents will. They would pick the one for you; it would be nonsense to talk about marrying someone you truly loved. No doubt, Romeo loved Juliet and Juliet loved Romeo deeply, but ancient grudges between the two families, the Capulet and the Montague did not allow the couple to be married. In the end of this romantic tragedy, both Romeo and Juliet choose to die because of love. The Capulet and the Montague families end their disagreements at the cost of the life of a young couple.

Euthanasia is becoming a widespread matter around the world. Many people are debating whether euthanasia should be legalized so that people that are diagnosed with long term illnesses can find an easier way to end their life. It is true that we do not have the right to decide whether someone else should continue to live or die. But considering that many people seeking euthanasia are patients with long term illness or living in large amounts of pain, in some cases, people are almost dead, except that his heart is still pumping. They cannot talk, they cannot eat, they cannot think. The chances of them recovering are almost minute, what is running through the minds of these people?

”Kill me, end this misery” Or is it,

”Let me fight this war, I will win, I want to continue this fight”

Will it be criminal of us to end this life for them? Are we doing them a good deed? If their family and the doctors agree to it, is it really against their will? Some values in the society are so important that everyone has to accommodate to it. The Caplets?and the Montagues?would not allow their offspring to marry their biggest enemies. When will people be able to put down their own views and let things to be decided by the ones that matters most? Watch him suffer or give him a helping hand?

A cure? Or a crime?
