The speech subject: People racing with themselves
“We are all people racing with ourselves. We strive at our best for a better tomorrow. Since there is no ending to the way, we shall never cease our efforts.” The song I hummed just now is named “People racing with themselves”, which is also the subject of my speech today.
During the past long years, weren’t you often in the same state as me: having objectives but no action, having aspirations but no courage, having ideas but no practice, having ambitions but no perseverance…? Every time you thought of doing something for yourselves or granting your own wishes, you habitually looked for some excuses or reasons to justify yourselves but turned out to lose out, didn’t you? Until one day at last I determined to challenge myself, I found out that every one of us has the power to change the future and I realized the meaning of this song I like: “We are all people racing with ourselves, striving at our best for a better future and an extraordinary victory.” Now I’m going to share some of my experience with you.
I still remember the first semester when I went to junior hight school. Because my mother was receiving medical treatment in Taiwan and couldn’t give me instruction and guidance by my side from time to time, and also because of my idleness, I had no motivation at that time and lived a life without aim and discipline, resulting in a disastrous decline of my study. Till my mother returned from Taiwan and discovered my changes, she had a long talk with me. “I don’t ask you to get the first place in the exams; I just expect you to be persistent in your set goal and exert all your efforts on it. Never let the environment change or influence your decision,” said she. “Everybody has his own way to go, so you don’t have to compete with the others. Just fight against yourself and become one that races with himself.” When others fall into slumber cozily, we still need to review our dreams in the lamplight, because I know that “while I’m trying my best, the others are also trying their best; when I’m not trying, the others are trying their best all the same.” With my mother’s enlightenment and guidance, my performance progressed in one exam after another. Finally in the review examination of that semester, I got the first place in my class and the twenty-fourth in the school.
Stumbles are unavoidable during we race with ourselves in the youth. However, it’s only some of our efforts that fail, so why should we care about how others look at us? As long as we carry on, why should we mind whether others applaud or not? Your life would not always stay in the bottom, just like the rain could not hang in the sky forever. What is important is to face your present situation, to work hard quietly and to accumulate your strength, so that one day you can develop your ideals and fulfill your ambitions at will, which would be the most beautiful prospect. Then even if there is no cheer or applause, you still have an unlimited bright future. Let’s make every effort together for an extraordinary victory!
後記:這是女兒國一時,參加英語演講比賽的初稿{學校有幫她再次修稿,我沒那份資料}
